Chronograph watchesThe Chronograph, thanks to a Frenchman named Rieussec, was invented in 1821 and patented in 1822. The Greek words "chronos" and "graph" stand for time and writing and the Rieussec chronograph watch actually traced information to a small piece of paper. The original chronograph was the only one properly termed as modern chronographs no longer do any actual "writing". Very early in the 1900's the chronograph or stopwatch was offered as a wrist watch. Timex is now a dominant manufacturer of affordable and fashionable chronographs. Chronographs now have several sub dials with a scale, from which the measurements can be read. A second hand stopwatch can be started and stopped, without interfering with the continuation of time and measurement by the watch and the sub dials can measure to increments as small as 1/20th of a second.
